Well, I finished the game, it’s not very polished tho…
All I can say is, never.. ever.. EVER procrastinate on things that is important….
If that one guy didn’t tell me any idea at all, I wouldn’t even be able to make a game, thanks again you annoying perv.. And When joining at anything, generally, be mentally prepared… or else you’ll end up like me…
Also get some nice schedule on your works, the game I made actually started at Day 4 afternoon…. and the other days was just purely blank.. like nothing at all….
Time management.. I guess I’ll remember this next jam.. because I didn’t get enough sleep for the rest of the jam..
So technically, this is the last day for finishing, polishing, debugging, publishing, and sharing the game….
Yep… I’m screwed….Luckily my friends are helping me out in making the levels in the game… which made the development faster. ^_^
With the love and support of my family, girlfriend, and friends.. This is game is gonna be published… Because it has to…
The development of the levels is constant and smooth sailing, while the debugging and coding part… well… yeah…. it’s debugging… If you know what debugging is… It’s annoying….. Like ANNOYING!!!
I was scratching my head for half an hour for one conditional statement! (conditional statement is technically comparing things: is object apple a fruit? or is box-1 bigger than box-2). Even though coding is very ‘head scratching’, I still like programming, It’s something I like, and something I want to do… ^_^
The ‘Project Holes’ still needs some menu and music plus sound effects…. But I think I can do it..
It doesn’t really matter few people can see this game in the game jam, as long as I complete the thing I want to achieve, and that is to finish and submit the game on time..
Wish me luck for next few hours! I’ll be uploading this game very soon..
In the four days that passed… I literally didn’t do anything!
Because of one simple reason, I don’t have an Idea what to make. Sure there is a theme given, but to think an idea for this jam was not for me kinda feeling…. I think and think and think….. and think and think for four days and still no go…. NO idea, thanks brain… In the time I needed you most, you vanished….. Nope, He just hates me this week..
So, Even though it is against my will, and 100% risky.. And I might lose everything…
I ask my perverted friend to think of an idea with theme of Holes….. Yup, perverted implies to idea, implies to holes… So in the moment I asked him… I immediately said, without a second delay, “Not the type you’re thinking right now.”, He just laughs…
So, he thought of an idea of a maze/puzzle levels where you are traveling across the universe, where time is bendable… It is bendable (for some reason), because of an existing ‘black hole’ and a ‘white hole’ where they constantly pushing an pulling.. Yet, since your existence disrupt this balance, the ‘black hole'(instead of pulling you) is attracted to you.
So, you must go to the ‘white hole’ for you to remove your existence in that area of ‘space time’. And to restore balance of the disrupted universal scales.
It sounds awesome!… It sounds too awesome… that’s a problem…. because the deadline is 2 days left… So I must make the ‘space time'(maze/level) in a minimal scale design puzzle.
Wish me luck! And thanks to that perverted friend (now you have a purpose to live, you blob-face ^_^ ).
Here is a screenshot of the level setup (don’t mind the sprites.. please).
The first game jam I joined. “Brackey’s Game Jam 2020.1” has officially started on Feb. 16, 2020 at around 4:00 pm. I am so excited to finally joined a game jam. The rules are simple: Make a game in line to the given theme: “Holes” in a span of 7 days. It’s straightforward and simple. They make it simple for they know making even a simple game is hard.
My first game ever published was “Pop It!”, with a simple ‘whack a mole’ mechanics. And that even took almost a month to develop. So making a game within a 7 day deadline would be like playing a game on a ‘speed-run’.
“Pop It!” was the first published game and I’m not even talking about my unpublished games. Hopefully I can make this game within the given time limit. Well, at least I’m not alone, I got my team to help me finish it. We are planning to make our dreams a reality.
Wish us luck! and also to the other people who joined the jam. Good luck guys.
